Trade Count Cap

Limits "just one more trade" spirals

Overtrading is frequently described as taking too many low-quality trades, often after missing the best early moves. This recipe caps trades per session/day and forces review when hit.

PROMPT

Create a "Trade Count Cap" guardrail. Default max 6 trades/day and 4 per session. Warn me at 80% usage. When max is hit, stop suggesting new entries and prompt a quick review: list my top 1 and bottom 1 trade of the session and the pattern behind them.

Pain point

Traders report that beyond a certain number of trades, marginal setups dominate and performance degrades.

Triggers

  • Trade count >= maxTradesPerDay OR maxTradesPerSession

Conditions

  • Separate caps for morning vs afternoon (optional)
  • Optional: higher cap on high-volatility days only if backtested

Actions

  • Alert when at 80% of cap
  • When cap hit: disable order templates + prompt a review of best/worst trade

Parameters (defaults)

  • maxTradesPerDay: 6
  • maxTradesPerSession: 4
  • warningAtPercent: 0.8

Examples

  • At trade #5 of 6, send a warning. At trade #6, require a stop-and-review.
  • If you override the cap, tag the trade as "exception" for weekly review.
