Matter Setup Wizard
New matter? One command. Everything created.
When you open a new matter, one command creates the folder structure, calendar entries, billing codes, contact records, and conflict check. No more entering the same data into five disconnected systems.

PROMPT
Create a skill called "Matter Setup Wizard" for a lawyer. When I open a new matter, I'll provide: client name, matter type (litigation, transactional, etc.), adverse parties, key dates (statute of limitations, filing deadlines, court dates), and billing information. From this single input, do the following: (1) Create a matter folder with my standard subfolder structure for that practice area. (2) Add all key dates to my calendar with reminders. (3) Create a billing matter code using my naming convention. (4) Add all parties to my contacts with their roles. (5) Run a conflict check and save the clearance report. (6) Generate a matter information sheet with all details. (7) Create an opening checklist and track completion of each item. Ask me for my folder templates and naming conventions during initial setup.
How It Works
Opening a new matter means creating entries in your file system, billing
system, calendar, contacts, and conflict database. This skill does it all
from a single input — one matter, one command, everything set up.
What You Get
- Standard folder structure created with all subfolders
- Key dates added to calendar (statute of limitations, filing deadlines, court dates)
- Billing matter code assignment and initial setup
- Contact records created for all parties
- Conflict check logged and filed
- Matter information sheet generated
- Opening checklist tracked to completion
Setup Steps
- Configure your standard folder template by practice area
- Set up your billing code naming convention
- Provide matter information (client, adverse parties, matter type, key dates)
- Everything else is automatic
Tips
- Different practice areas need different folder structures — set up templates for each
- The opening checklist prevents the "I forgot to calendar the SOL" disaster
- Run the conflict check before creating folders — save yourself the cleanup if you have to decline
- Update the matter information sheet as the case develops — it's your single source of truth
